Streampal is the prototype of an AI-controlled robotic companion that records you wherever you are. A product for Youtubers and Instagrammers keen to record their adventures.
In times of increasing surveillance and data manipulation, it also makes sense to have your own record of actual events. Streampal can accompany you on your way to work, to meetings and events.
A mascot and companion, following, recording and listening with intelligence. An everyday tool for contemporary moments, an artifact of a considered technological present.
Streampal has a low center of gravity and sturdy wheels to dash through homes, offices and streets. Outfitted with a 360 degree movable 4K camera, a large battery and a solid state disk, Streampal is AI-controlled and can follow you through object recognition.
Podchain is an integrated design concept for on-demand autonomous transport. To optimize kinetic energy and required street space, Podchain pods connect to become small trains on main routes. When approaching individual destinations, pods disconnect for door-to-door service, thus eliminating the need to change to other means of transport to cover the "last mile".
Public transport does not deliver door-to-door service, while private transport in cars is clogging urban streets. Podchain overcomes the public-private dichotomy of transport by being both public and private. A business model of fractional ownership makes it easily affordable for individuals, communities and small businesses. Each ride is a blockchain transaction allowing for precise cost control. The Podchain system permanently updates to send pods to where they are needed.
Today´s conventional cars are used only 5% of their lifetime: 95% of their lifetime they just stand around and occupy vast space on parking lots or streets, space which could be better used for communal areas, urban farming and green spaces. Podchain inverts these inefficiencies: A pod can be used 95% of its lifetime as it continues to operate as an on-demand transport service, thereby significantly reducing the total number of vehicles on the road.
A low-cost hybrid urban scooter for developing countries running either on electric battery or on biofuel.
The sandwich-frame chassis uses minimal material to reduce weight, yet offers protection for drivers in sprawling urban environments. OLED lights and speakers are integrated into the chassis. Thin tires reduce drag. A magnetic holder and connector safely attaches a smartphone so that it can act as a dashboard. The smartphone is connected to the integrated speakers and helps in wayfinding through Google Maps.
A sports bike for urban and mountain environments. The intelligently optimized carbon frame provides for increased stability with less material. A forms carved from advanced composite that drinks light, moving with a poised gravity.
An unexpected form reminiscent of ancient organisms but resulting from scientific inquiry, minimizing material and maximizing stability.
Transport distilled to its essential, haptic core. Forms carved from dense yet feather-light composites, moving with a poised gravity.Combining contemporary technology with a focus on low cost and reliability, this neighborhood transport vehicle for developing countries features a high and wide wheel base and wide tires to ensure stable handling for bad road conditions with mud, stones and potholes.
IOTAO is a series of IoT - enabled domestic cooking devices which reinterpret the forms and myths of ancient vessels to forge emotional connections. In ancient Chinese tradition, the mythical Taotie face appereared on cooking vessels and represented a creature protecting its owners. Within this cosmology, the Taotie created a communication connection between people and the heavens. In this contemporary interpretation, the Taotie becomes an animated spirit, an icon and emoji giving friendly feedback to user input.
The formal shapes of the four objects - bbq/steamer, kettle, rice cooker and crockpot - are inspired by the forms of ancient bronze vessels from the Shang and Zhou dynasties. Intended for contemporary apartments, these devices constitute an independent modern kitchen and invite users to explore cooking even when they have little space and time. Users can pre-program and remotely operate these devices so that hot water is ready, rice is cooked, and dishes are freshly cooked, steamed, or barbecued when getting home.
This concept for a mobile phone with wrap-around touch screen and a social media function proposed a bent touch screen, interaction by swiping and tapping, and an animated representation of friend networks instead of phone number lists. It looks somewhat familiar now, but when it was presented by Mario Gagliardi to a large European mobile phone manufacturer in 2004, it was rejected with the argument that "screens that large cannot be made and people want number buttons". The manufacturer eventually lost massive market share to Apple and was sold in 2014.
This concept for a portable digital sound control device predicted a wrap-around display and intuitive interaction. By moving the sound stick up and down, volume can be increased and decreased; By moving and pointing it sideways, sound can be distributed to connected speakers. Finally, the sound of downloaded music can be intuitively modified by shaking the device. Studio Mario Gagliardi, 2003.
Conventional audio speakers require the listener to sit in a certain spot to get the best audio experience. The Tri-X concept from 2017 makes the sound follow the listener. Audio panels with embedded speakers fold and unfold, using their angle and direction to create different sound space experiences.
This project from 2017 proposed a domestic AI assistant as a central domestic information unit while signaling that it is driven by artificial intelligence.
The domestic AI assistant It uses a particular computer graphic style for its visual feedback, the outlined stacked plot graph. It became popular through the 1979 album cover "Unknown Pleasures" by English band Joy Division, which showed a stacked plot computer graph of the electromagnetic radiation of pulsar star CP 1919.
